Insurance for digital asset businesses, built for your AFSL
More than 140 digital asset businesses have applied to ASIC for licensing (as at October 2026). If you're one of them, or you're already licensed, registered with AUSTRAC or operating under an AFS licensee, we arrange professional indemnity, D&O and crime cover through a specialist Lloyd's digital asset underwriter.

Why is crypto so hard to insure?
Most digital asset businesses find out at the worst moment: when a licensee, a bank or ASIC asks for a certificate of currency.
Cover we arrange
All cover is subject to underwriting and the terms, conditions and exclusions of the policy wording.
Who we cover
Who we already insure
Digital asset clients across broking, ETFs, education, payments, staking and tokenised funds.
How it works
Applying for or varying an AFSL?
ASIC's RG 126 sets minimum PI features. We'll structure your cover to fit: limit, reinstatement, defence costs, and fraud and dishonesty.
Common questions
Do I need PI insurance to get an AFSL for digital assets?
If you provide financial services to retail clients, section 912B of the Corporations Act and ASIC's RG 126 generally require adequate PI: at least $2m for licensees with retail revenue of $2m or less, rising with revenue to a $20m cap. Wholesale-only firms aren't caught by section 912B, but ASIC, licensees and counterparties commonly expect cover.
I'm a corporate authorised representative. Am I covered by my licensee's policy?
Sometimes. Many licensees require digital asset CARs to hold their own PI. We can work with your licensee to confirm what they need.
What's changing in 2027?
The Digital Assets Framework Act introduces licensing for digital asset platforms and tokenised custody platforms from April 2027, with a six-month transition. Operators will need an AFSL with the new authorisations.
Does my cyber policy cover stolen crypto?
Often not. Many cyber and crime wordings exclude digital assets or don't define them as covered property. We'll review your current wording.
Do you cover custody or hot wallet losses?
Custody and specie cover is specialist and limited. We'll assess your custody architecture (hot and cold storage, MPC, multisig) and approach suitable markets.
What information will underwriters need?
Your licence or registration status, revenue by activity, custody arrangements, assets under custody or funds under management, governance, and claims and regulatory history. Our questions cover the essentials, and we'll help with the rest.
Do you insure New Zealand businesses?
Talk to us. We work with trans-Tasman businesses, subject to licensing and insurer appetite.
How much does it cost?
It depends on what you do, the limits you need and your controls. Answer our questions and we'll come back with indicative terms.
